Project 365 – Week 30

I’m beginning to think every week is a crazy week somehow. It’s the same ol’ complaint: so much to do, so little time. Clearly I haven’t yet figure out how to stop the time-drain that I bemoaned about a fortnight ago… On a more positive note, I’m getting a couple of sightseeing days in Brittany next weekend when I’m in the region for my friends’ wedding. Frankly, I’m superstoked about the prospect of this getaway, even if it’s a very short one!

* * *

Wall-E

22 Jul: Last year, thanks to a promo, I got myself an annual pass to the Disneyland Paris. However, after that one visit with my siblings – where I didn’t go on a single rollercoaster ride – I haven’t been back until now. My inner child certainly loved this day out, squeeing in joy, humming repetitive songs, and making impressions of Eeeeee-vaaaaa and Waaaaaall-Eeeeeee. I finally tried a few of the newer rides that were not there before from, I don’t know, 2004, when I last really ran around Disneyland from one ride to another. Crush’s Coaster in my new favourite ride ;)

Dusk sky

23 Jul: I was a bit cocooned in, trying to deal with some paperworks and also finalising some details for my friends’ upcoming wedding, which they’ve asked me to help out with. However, it didn’t mean I stopped paying attention to the world outside, well, mainly because it was so warm so I had to keep multiple windows wide open and I could therefore hear all the traffic (and siren) passing through. It was late when I finally call it a day, and could take a moment to admire the beautifully pastel sky outside.

Blue cat

24 Jul: Asian food craving is taking me into the Chinatown area so I can pick up some ingredients for cooking and a handy snack or two. Yet, once I got there, I’ve forgotten about the snack and I bought only a handful few things because in my mind, we’ll be away from Paris this weekend and I must not stock up on too much fresh produce. Of course, I was being rather silly, as we’re staying put for at least another week. On the plus side, this kitty helped to distract my already distracted self. I’m still debating the face expression it is showing. Is it sadness? Or longing for something? Or confusion? Or …?

Art gallery

25 Jul: Passing by the art gallery along the quay near St Michel, I looked into the window and saw pieces that are fascinating, yet at the same time had me posing this question – “Who buys stuff like this?”. Certain quirkiness are just too quirky, so I doubt an average Parisian apartment would have room for something so decorative and out there. I could be wrong though. Would you buy something like this sculpture above?

Pink flamingo

26 Jul: Maybe I should take my words back from yesterday. Guess what I found on someone’s balcony today? Flamingoes. Not one, not two, but three sets of three! I guess they do brighten up the outdoors a bit, and likely providing a talking point of any (new) visitors to the apartment when they take a break out at the balcony. Afterall, it garnered the attention of the wee me who was just passing by downstairs.

Letterbox

27 Jul: Do any of us really send hand-written letters anymore? I send postcards when I travel, and I used to be quite good at it. This year, however, my effort had been paltry and I barely had time to write a handful few during our last holiday. A very unscientific observation: being single was good for postcard writing whereas being part of a couple means we had more things to do and need to be more accommodating to one another’s activities, hence less sitting around time to write postcards?

Bed on a pond

28 Jul: St Germain-en-Laye is one of the Parisian suburbs which I’ve been meaning to visit for a while but somehow just never got round to it. With a few fellow expats (plus a cute puppy) we finally made it out there today for a walk and to also check out the (free) temporary exhibition in the garden that was created by André Le Nôtre. I nicknamed this particular piece “Sleeping Beauty” although I must say, it’s going to be mighty tough to climb into this bed without getting a bit of a soaking…

I feel like nowadays I have less than 24 hours :p

I need to get more organised with my address book though, as my last trip, I completely forgot to bring it with me and had to dig through my emails etc to look for addresses. I was hoping I didn’t get yours wrong!

  4. Jo says:

Write postcards to each other! Then it will qualify as “doing things together”…

    • Lil says:

lol, i like your idea jo! but, alas, it took him over an hour to think of the two lines to write to his parents and his grandma, so i’m a bit scared to imagine how long he’ll need to write to me ;)
