Paris sera toujours Paris

My first digital camera was bought back in 2004, then a shiny ultra-compact Canon Ixus i – not that I really knew what I was doing and photography was something geared towards typical holiday shots. Here’s me in front of the monument X, and here’s me, again, but in front of the garden Y…

Our move into the new apartment marks a point where a thorough spring cleaning of our belongings makes perfect sense. I throw myself into a massive re-organisation effort, which includes digging up my digital archives stored in various external hard disks. Within, I found a folder named “2005 – Paris” and it has been fun going through the photos, looking at the antics my friend and I were up to during the trip, and to also marvel at how little Paris changes over the year.

Paris

Any of these photos could have been shot just this week instead of nearly a decade ago. Likely with better quality though, given the improvements in the technology of digital photography. Back then, I had not quite grasp that the zoom function of the Ixus i was digital zoom either, resulting in many grainy and less-than-sharp photos.

I’ve since learned more about photography (and still learning!) and came to see Paris as a familiar old friend. While there are undoubtedly changes over the years, the City of Light remains quite true to herself on the aesthetics. One thing for sure, the song doesn’t lie when it goes “Paris sera toujours Paris…”

  1. I think these are still wonderful photos! :)
I like the buskers, I learned recently that you have to audition in a very competitive process (a concours of sorts!) to be authorised to bush in Paris!

Thanks Sarah! Indeed it is not easy to get authorisation to busk, but at the same time there are plenty of unqualified and unauthorised buskers in the city, especially in the metros/RERs. The standing joke is to give them money so they’ll stop!

love this post :) crazy how time goes by… i guess our 10th “anniversary” is not quite here yet but it’s just around the corner i guess!

    • Lil says:

Time flies indeed, and even if 10th anniversary isn’t quite there yet, we’ve just recently passed the 7th (based on the salsa meet-up!) and longer if considering phorum ;)
