Postcards: From Bray to Greystone (IE)

On our final morning in Dublin, we woke up at the ungodly hour of six in the morning. Frédéric had been a little restless through the night. The unpredictable Irish weather had rendered our planned cliff walk from Bray to Greystone a no-go on the previous day, and he really hated the idea of leaving the excursion to another trip. He had stealthily checked the weather right before waking me up, and quietly declared “it IS clear this morning so shall we go to Bray?”

I groaned at remembering my promise from a few hours earlier that we would go if it’s not raining in the morning. Unfortunately, we could not leave any later either or we risked not getting back in time for our lunch meeting with Nora. Bray and Greystone are situated to the south of Dublin, of which travel time by DART from Lansdowne Road (the station closest to us, 10-12 minutes walk) takes about 35 minutes and 45 minutes respectively. A trail of cliff walk of about 6km separates the edges of these two small towns and here are some photos from the walk.

I was still sleepy when we started the walk but soon I was all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed from our brisk pace, cheerfully greeting other walkers/joggers along the trail. There was no regret to be had from the shortened sleep when we consider what we got in return. It could have been better had the sun been beaming at that point (it did eventually come out to play around lunchtime) but honestly, in Ireland, we learn to love the nature in all elements, rain, hail or shine.

And oh, the last picture above, clearly a little different from the rest. Just in case anyone’s wondering, that’s a photo of Dalkey and Dalkey Island which I grabbed while we were on the DART, heading back towards Dublin. It doesn’t do the real view justice at all! Frankly, I could imagine sitting in the DART all day and travel to/fro between Dalkey and Greystone for the view alone.

Sweet…good composition on the ‘A look back towards Bray’ shot…looks like a very nice 6km walk/hike in cozy weather hehe ;)

In a way, yes, it was pleasant to walk comfortably without crazy heat/humidity but the scenery does change with the natural light so it has potential to be so much more :)
